Margaret Susan Darby Obituary Early Thursday morning, October 3, 2024, Margaret Susan Darby, loving wife and mother, went to be with her Lord and Savior at age 70 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina. A Going Home Celebration will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2024 at First Free Will Baptist Church, 790 Hawthorne Rd, Chester SC 29706. A visitation time with the family will be held following the service in the Church Sanctuary. The family will gather at 1340 Liberty Rd in Chester, SC. Susan was born on January 25, 1954 in Chester SC and was the daughter of the late Bobby Estes and Nell Black Dover. She was preceded in death by her only brother, Mike Estes. Susan is survived by her loving husband of over fifty years,` Zeddie, her three wonderful children Tabitha Holmes (Bill) of Cary, NC, Scott Darby (Traci) of Gaffney, SC and Amy Burnett (Blake) of Unionville, NC, and six grandchildren, Morgan Byars (Anna), Phillip Byars, Darby Burnett, Dutch Burnett, Braelyn Darby, and Nathan Darby. On March 29, 1974, Susan married Zeddie Darby, the love of her life. She and Zeddie walked hand in hand through life over fifty years still as in love as the first time they saw each other so many years ago. She spent many years serving the residents of Chester County cheerfully as an associate with B.C. Moore’s and later Walmart. She also worked in the weave room for Springs Industries. While working and after leaving the workforce, Susan spent time volunteering and seeking to help and encourage others. She worked tirelessly as a volunteer for Hawthorne Christian Academy and Relay for Life. She and Zeddie also spent years working with Little Sparrow Ministries collecting needed items, delivering them, and ministering to people in communities in West Virginia. She often made gifts for people in her church and the community and called just to encourage them. She also loved to quilt and to share that experience with others including a local quilting group. Susan loved God and was an example of His love to others. She also loved her family and spent as much time as possible with them. Her face lit up any time she talked about her husband, children, or grandchildren. Susan spent most of her adult life serving the Lord in churches in Chester, SC. She was a faithful member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Chester where she served the Lord in ministry and loved and encouraged her fellow church members. She was the head of the church’s Relay for Life team for many years raising significant amounts to help with the fight against cancer. She was also a wonderful friend and caretaker to an elderly woman in the church. Susan served alongside her husband (a deacon) at West Chester Baptist Church helping in various ways including the church office and organizing Fun Friday for the seniors there. While we know that Susan is at home with her Lord and Savior, her absence here will be felt by many. She spent her life trying to help others and make an impact on their lives. Susan leaves behind a loving family, friends who were blessed to have her as part of their lives, and a church family who loved her dearly. She rededicated her heart to Jesus at First Free Will Baptist Church on West Elliott Street many years ago under the leadership of Pastor James Sanders. She desired for all to come to a knowledge of Jesus Christ and often shared that her favorite verses were Matthew 11:28-30. Her legacy is certainly one of love for God, her family, and others. Susan requested that memorials be made to Hawthorne Christian Academy, 790 Hawthorne Rd, Chester, SC 29706. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.barronfuneralhome.com.
