Lowrys, SC: Mamie Hane Guy, 95, of Chester passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at her home with her loving family and caretakers by her side. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 17, 2014 at Zion Presbyterian Church with Reverend Al Ward and Reverend Fred Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the home, 522 Hane Lane, Chester, SC 29706. Interment will be held in Zion Presbyterian Cemetery. Mrs. Guy was born to John Keitt Hane, Sr., and Mary Trezevant Hane of Fort Motte, SC, on July 12, 1919. She grew up in Fort Motte and attended school in St. Matthews, SC. After graduating from business school, Mamie moved to Chester in 1941.There, she began working at the Farm Security Administration where she met Ruben Cassels Guy, Jr.Two years later, they were married and moved to the Guy family home in Lowrys, South Carolina.Mamie retired as secretary for the Chester County Commerce and Development Board where she worked from the mid-1960s until her retirement in 1989.In 2013, she was honored by the Chester Commerce and Development Board for her tenure there, during which she was described by many as “the face of the Chester County Chamber of Commerce.” Mamie was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer of the Women of the Church.She was a true Christian, as her kindness, compassion, generosity, and faith defined her in both word and deed.Her favorite season of the year was summer when she enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning, and spending time on her front porch visiting with friends and family.Mamie was a wonderful cook.The many people who knew and loved her will always have fond memories of Mamie mixing a bowl of her famous chicken salad or stirring sugar into an enormous metal tub of sweet tea at family reunions.Her lemon and caramel pies were so delicious that she often gave them as gifts, much to the delight of the recipients. Mamie is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Guy, her daughter-in-law, Debbie Hunter Guy, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.She is pre-deceased by her husband Reuben Cassels Guy, Jr.; her son Reuben Cassels Guy, III; brothers John Keitt Hane, Jr., Heyward Trezevant Hane, Walther Wolfe Hane; and sister Rosa Hane Alday.
