CHESTER, SC: Mrs. Mae Crosby Yelton died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Chester Regional Nursing Center.The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 in the vestibule First Baptist Church of Chester.The funeral service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Chester with Reverend Clay Waldrip officiating. The interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Born in Lancaster County, SC, Mrs. Yelton was a daughter of the late John L. and Lillie Deese Walters.She attended the schools of Lancaster County and served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps during WWII. Mrs. Yelton was a member of First Baptist Church of Chester where she taught the Beginners Class for many years and was a kindergarten teacher’s assistant for fourteen years.She also was a kindergarten teacher at the Head Start for eight years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Alvin Crosby, a daughter, Charlotte Ostling, and a great granddaughter, Nora Elliott Shannon, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her husband of over thirty-one years, James Craton Yelton; one son, Ernest Walker Crosby (Pam) of Aiken, SC; one daughter, Patricia Shannon (Bob) of Chester, SC; one step-son, Dennis Yelton (Cyndi) of Albuquerque, N.M; one brother, Eddie Walters of Chester, SC; two sisters, Dolly Wright of Chester and Eva Neal of Fort Mill, SC; two grandsons; five granddaughters, and twelve great grandchildren Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Chester, PO Box 518, Chester, SC 29706.
