Lois Plexico Steinkuhler Voyles, 86, died Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Wellmore of Tega Cay. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM also Saturday at Barron Funeral Home. A service will also be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407. Born May 27, 1940 in Chester, SC she was the daughter of the late Albert Julian and Bille Plexico Steinkuhler. She was a graduate of Chester High School and received a Batchelor of Science from Winthrop College. She also received a Master of Arts in Teaching and an Education Department Specialist Certification from The Citadel.
Ms. Voyles retired from teaching after 30 years of dedicated service. She taught at Brentwood and Burns Elementaries in North Charleston, SC. During that time, she was chosen Teacher of the year Twice and was on the ballot for Teacher of the year 15 different years. She was active in her church, Grace United Methodist Church: as a member of the Chancel Choir, Hand Bell Choir, member of the School Board for the Grace United Methodist Church Weekday School, Co-Chair and Member of the Anita Way Circle, Head of the Committee for Restoration and Making of Chrismon ornaments and Cross-stitch ornaments; and she enjoyed numerous other activities related to her Church.
Besides her church-related activities, Lois enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of two bridge clubs, one of which – The Bridge Club, she was a member for over 63 years.
Surviving, are her nephew, Samuel Eugene McCollum of York; Niece, Noreen McCollum Houser of Dallas, NC; Great-Nephews – Hyrum Alexander Simms of York, SC, and Robert Jacob McCollum of Dallas, NC; Buddy McCollum of Lancaster, SC; Parker McCollum and Hunter McCollum of Chester, SC; and many faithful friends whom she adored. Lois was predeceased by her sister Billie Anne Steinkuhler McCollum; her nephew, Robert Delano McCollum, as well as her Great-Nephew David Wesley Simms. She also leaves behind her faithful Cairn Terrier companion, Cassie
