Mrs. Kaye Carter Douglas, 81, formerly of Gaffney, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Douglas was the daughter of the late Bernice McDaniel and a graduate of Gaffney High School. Kaye retired from the optometry office of Dr. N. W. Davis of Gaffney and also worked for many years with Bridges Welding & Supply.
Along with her husband, Sonny, Kaye loved entertaining and being a gracious hostess to family and friends for many years. Kaye embraced the role of “Nana” and, most recently, her three great-grandchildren were the highlight of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Angie N. Etters (Dean) of Chester, SC; sons Jeff Newman (Meg) of Duncan, SC, and David Douglas (Ann) of Mariana, FL; five grandchildren, Krista E. Jordan (Tyler) and Jeremy Etters (Ashley) of Chester, SC, Kaylee Etters of Greenwood, SC, Ben Newman of Duncan, SC, and Marin Douglas of Mariana, FL; three great-grandchildren, Jase Jordan, Scarlett Jordan, and Hallie Etters all of Chester, SC; a sister, Judy Carter; and a brother, Jim Barker both of Gaffney, SC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Daniel “Sonny” Douglas; her brother, Bobby Carter; and her grandson, Alex Newman.
A special thanks to the amazing staff of MUSC Chester Nursing Center and Agape Hospice for the incredible care they provided over the past year.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Chester Freedom Ministries in Chester, SC, with Rev. Steve Bishop and Rev. Don Etters officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
