CHESTER, SC Mrs. Lavinia Weir McDonald, 85, died November 26, 2018 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, 8380 Ashford Ferry Road, Carlisle, SC 29031 with Reverend Terry Wingate officiating.The interment will be in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends Friday, November 30, 2018 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester, SC 29706. Born February 16, 1933 in Chapin, SC, Mrs. McDonald was a daughter of the late Leslie Banks Weir and Cora Raines Weir. She was a graduate of Blackstock High School and Winthrop College with a Bachelor of Science in Health & Physical Education.Mrs. McDonald was a retired Chester CountyPhysical Education Teacher having taught in Charlotte, NC City Schools and Chester County Schools.Mrs. McDonald received the State Conservation Teacher of The Year, State Wild Life Instructor of The Year and Chester County Teacher of The Year duringthe 1982-1983 school year.She was also active in the Chester County Soil and Water Conservation District.Mrs. McDonald was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church having served as church clerk, Sunday School Teacher and leading several youth programs.She was preceded in death by her husbandof fifty years,Thomas Elliott McDonald and her sister, Eloise Weir Blanks. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law,Sandra McDonald of Fort Collins, Colorado and Harriet M. and Dana Simmons of Clemson, SC; one grandson, Edward Dana Simmons IV of Clemson, SC; twin granddaughters, Maggie and Kate Simmons of Clemson, SC; one niece, Rinne Blanks Cannon of Clemson, SCand severalnephews.
