Mr. Larry E. Torbert, 78, of Chester SC passed away On January 25, 2025, at his home. Larry was born on December 12, 1946, in Cuthbert, Georgia. He was the only child of the late John Eugene Torbert and Betty Bass Torbert of Bluffton, Georgia. Growing up, he attended school in Clay County Georgia, attended college in Atlanta, Georgia, and later York Technical College. Larry was a veteran of the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy, he moved to Chester, S.C. and became a telecommunication operator for the SC Highway Patrol for many years until he retired. Larry enjoyed golfing, dove and quail shoots, fishing, and the beach. He also loved attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events over many years. He was a lifelong Auburn Tigers fan and a huge Bob Dylan fan. Larry is survived by his wife, Cathy Torbert of Chester. He is also survived by his daughters; Blakely Torbert and Marianna Torbert of Chester, step-daughter Kimberly McWatters of Chester, grandchildren; Marshall Huffstetler, Cameron Gibson, Victoria Chambers, Kyan Kennedy, Amaya Johnson, Jakoby Kennedy, Shaniyah Johnson, Ontrea Johnson, Lauryn Johnson, Bristol McClurkin, Alyssa Swygart, Trace Swygart and Luke Cameron all of Chester. Larry was predeceased by his oldest daughter, Jane Torbert Gibson and his granddaughter, Jakayla Chambers. He is also survived by distant family members and friends and loved his lifelong friends in Georgia: Hoke, Jan, Starr, Danny, and Raymond. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ember Church, 1841 JA Cochran Bypass Ste H, Sunday February 2nd at 3pm with Rev. Kevin Taylor officiating. The interment will be private. In place of flowers, memorials may be sent to Ember Church of Chester or a charity of your choice.
