Larry Stephen Poole, 82, passed peacefully Friday, August 21, 2026, at Autumn House after a short illness. He was born in Fayetteville, NC and raised in Florence, SC. He spent most of his life and career in Columbia, SC.
Larry was one of the first twenty employees to join Seibels Bruce Insurance Company in their IT department. The IT department later separated and formed a subsidiary company called Policy Management Systems which grew to be one of the world’s largest insurance software providers. He served as Senior Vice President of the company for several years.
When Larry was not working hard to provide for his family, he always looked forward to vacationing at the beach. He was fiercely patriotic and prayed for his country. He cared deeply for children and contributed to many organizations that supported providing for those who were disadvantaged or underprivileged.
Larry was an active member of Northeast Presbyterian Church for 30 years. He was a member of the Good News Sunday School Class and served as both a deacon and an elder several times.
Larry is survived by his children, Terri Brown, Larry (Tracy) Poole II, Sara (Kersh) Peterson, Molly Poole; grandchildren, Katlyn Brown, Cassidy (Christopher) Hopkins, Emily (Levi) Culbreath, Tanis (Conner) Hicks, Taylor Poole, Noah Peterson, Isaiah Peterson, and Micah Peterson; great-grandchildren, Magnolia Reed Hopkins, Mollie Culbreath, Charlotte Hopkins, Wells Culbreath, Georgia Hopkins and Baker Culbreath; a brother, Robert “Bob” (Angie) Poole; sisters-in-law, Anne Harper Poole and Anne Allen Poole; and countless nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Darby Poole; his parents, Robert Clifton and Waddell Martin Poole; brothers, BG Roger “Cliff” Poole and John “Jackie” Poole; and a niece, Melinda Anne Poole.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lowrys, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
