Chester Mrs. Julia Eunice Hall McKeown of Chester passed away at the age of 95 on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 27, at First BaptistChurch of Lowrys with Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating.Interment will follow Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 26, at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC. Born April 6, 1918 in the Lowrys community of Chester County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Hainey Hall and Eunice Collins Hall.In 1925 she began her formal education in the first grade at Lowrys School and graduated from Chester High School in 1936.Julia was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Lowrys and through the years served her church as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and Women’s Missionary Union member.She loved her Fidelis Sunday School class and was a faithful member.She was a true witness for her church visiting prospective members and extending the invitation to visit and follow Christ.In her 90’s, as a fund raiser for the church, she rode on the back of a motorcycle from her house to the church.As her health permitted, Julia was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Julia was a wonderful cook and her daughter, Brenda, published a cookbook in her honor and it was dedicated to her on her 84th birthday by her children.Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook went towards renovation of what is now Lowrys School Community Center, the school she and her children attended.She shared her love for family and friends through her cooking and most importantly, she shared her faith and love for Jesus Christ.Julia was a beautiful and loving person and will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her four children,John Edgar McKeown and wife Voneva of Waynesville, NC, Kenneth Hall McKeown of the home, Gloria McKeown O’Donnell and husband Allan of Tupelo, MS, and Brenda McKeown Cabrey and husband Jack of Chester; eight beautiful grandchildren; twelve adorable great-grandchildren; and special friends and caregivers, Mary Boyd, Charlene James, Nancy Ford, Geneva Kirkpatrick, Gail McCree, and Kathy Yost.Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Wriley McKeown. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice and Community Care for their love, devotion, and professional care for our Mom.She loved you dearly and we were truly blessed.
