Chester Mrs. Juanita Jordan Coogler, 88, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Chester Regional Medical Center.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 13, at First Baptist Church of Chester with Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating.Interment will follow in Old Purity Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC. Born in Lancaster, SC on August 12, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Mr. Claude Thomas Jordan, Sr. and Mrs. Mae Bowers Jordan. She was the wife of the late Francis Marion Coogler, Sr.and also the wife of the late Harry Ralph Gardner, Jr. Mrs. Coogler was graduated from Lancaster High School in 1944 and also attended the University of Georgia.She was a longtime member of the Chester Garden Club and served often as a flower show judge. She also held the position of South Atlantic Regional Chairman of the National Council of State Garden Clubs. Mrs. Coogler was awarded the CARE Humanitarian pin, was a founding member of the Chester Little Theater and a member of First Baptist Church of Chester, SC. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Virginia Leigh Coogler of Chester, SC; two sons, John Edward (Cydney) Gardner II of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Francis Marion “Skip” Coogler, Jr. of Chester, SC; a brother, Jackie Jordan of Lancaster, SC; two grandchildren, Alexandra Gardner (Grant) Prescott of Myrtle Beach, SC and John Edward Gardner III of Orlando, FL; and four great grandsons, Robert Dylan Prescott and John Mason Prescott of Myrtle Beach, SC ,and John Edward “Jack” Gardner IV and Dane Cruz Gardner of Orlando, FL.Mrs. Coogler was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Hallowell, Margaret Hinson and Lougenia Gibson; and two brothers, Claude T Jordan, Jr. and Fred Jordan.
