Chester

Joyce Lee Hunter, 76, of Chester, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, at Piedmont Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family. Services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Hinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Barron Funeral Home.

Born to the late Donald Pearson and Porah Pearson, Joyce was a woman whose life was defined by love, loyalty, honesty, and an unwavering willingness to help others. She had a heart of gold and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Joyce was known for being direct and honest, always saying exactly what was on her mind, but behind her strong personality was a heart filled with compassion and an incredible capacity to love.

Joyce was a devoted wife to her late husband, Johnny Lewis Hunter Jr., with whom she shared 51 years of marriage in Chester. Together, they built a family and a life filled with memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

She was a loving mother to Trey Hunter (Shannon) of Rock Hill and Charlene Mims (Anthony) of Chester. But perhaps no title meant more to Joyce than “Memaw.” She cherished her grandchildren—Kylie, Kiersten, Makayla, Bubba, Brandon, Josh, and Carley—and her great-grandchildren, Aubree, Kacen, and Alexis. Her presence in their lives was a gift that they will carry with them forever.

Joyce had a way of making people feel cared for. She loved deeply, gave freely, and was always there when someone needed her. Her family and friends knew they could count on her, and she would care for each of them as if they were her own, always making sure they knew they were loved. The love she poured into those around her will continue through the generations she leaves behind.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings, Buddy, Teresa, Donnis, Patsy, and Sara.

Joyce leaves behind a family who loved her beyond words and a legacy that cannot be measured. Though her absence will be deeply felt, her love, her lessons, her honesty, her strength, and her generous heart will live on in every life she touched.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, a beloved sister, and a treasured friend. Above all, she was Memaw—a title she wore with pride and one that will forever be synonymous with love to those who knew her.

Joyce will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Her memory will be treasured, her stories will be told, and her love will continue to live on through the family she loved so dearly.
