Joyce Louise Engerson

April 3, 1939 — January 24, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Joyce Louise Engerson, who left us peacefully on January 24, 2025, at the age of 85 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born Joyce Louise Aydlette on April 3, 1939, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Leonard Odell Aydlette and Virginia Louise Poulter Aydlette, Joyce lived a life that was truly full of vibrancy and meaning. A headstrong and spirited woman, Joyce was a force of nature whose loving presence touched the lives of everyone around her. She was a courageous leader and devoted teacher, always ready to impart her wisdom and life lessons to her family and friends. Known for her intelligence and thoughtfulness, Joyce offered guidance with an understanding heart, and her firm yet gentle approach made her a valued confidante. Her opinionated nature sparked lively conversations that we will forever cherish. Joyce's unwavering determination and frugality revealed her thoughtful, giving spirit, as she prioritized the needs of others above her own. A caring and loving individual, she epitomized unconditional love—making everyone feel welcome and valued in her presence. Full of life, she embraced old-fashioned values while gracefully adapting to the ever-changing world around her. Her bravery in facing challenges and her strong-willed nature inspired us all to pursue our dreams with the same vigor she exemplified throughout her life. In addition to her remarkable personal qualities, Joyce had an impressive career in law enforcement, becoming the first female Revenue Officer with the U.S. Treasury before continuing her service with various law enforcement agencies in Broward County, Florida. Joyce cherished her time spent with family and friends, especially at worship at the Word and Spirit Church in Chester, South Carolina. She loved thrifting, antiquing, gardening, playing with her dogs, attending church, and creating beautiful memories with her loved ones. Joyce is survived by her eldest son, George Graham Brown, Jr., her son, Scott Allen Brown, her sister, Diane Aydlette, and her eldest granddaughter, Wendy Marie Alex. She is preceded in death by her husband, James William “Jim” Engerson. As we gather to honor her memory, we reflect on the countless lessons she imparted about generosity, strength, and kindness. Joyce was not just our grandmother, mother, and sister; she was our rock, our guide, and our cherished friend. Her spirit will forever illuminate our hearts, and we will strive to embody the values she instilled within us. Celebration of Life will be held at Word and Spirit on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 4 pm. A live stream link will be provided to all who are unable to attend. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.barronfuneralhome.com. Rest in peace, dear Joyce. Your memory will live on in our hearts and minds, and we will carry your legacy of love and wisdom with us always.
