Mr. Joseph Daniel Martin, Jr., 66, died Sunday, October 24, 2010.A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Capers Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Irvin Plowden officiating. Born May 22, 1944 in Spartanburg, SC, Mr. Martin was a son of the late Joseph D. Martin, Sr. and Betty Jane Taylor Martin.He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Furman University.He was a retired Band Director from Chester Middle School and former Band Director of Dorman High School in Spartanburg, SC from 1968-1971.Under his leadership, Dorman High School won the Cherry Blossom Festival National Marching Band Competition in 1970 in Washington, DC.He was Teacher of the Year at Chester Middle School in 1997-1998 and North Lakes Sertoma Club Man of The Year 1975 in Lexington, SC. He is survived by his wife Barbara Huett Martin; one son, Chris Martin and his wife Stefany of Spartanburg, SC; two daughters, Caroline H. Hamacher and her husband Henry of Chester and Erlina H. Foster and her husband Michael of Spartanburg, SC; two brothers, Bill Martin and his wife Claudia of Duncan, SC and Robert Martin and his wife Kathryn of Forest City, NC; six grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, Kaytlin, Courtney, Isabel and Reagan and one great grandson, Romeo. The family will receive friends anytime at the home, 1640 Connor Road, Chester.
