John Neely Pressley John Neely Pressley, of the Lowrys community in Chester, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home April 24, 2024 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. It is the same home he was born in just over 85 years ago on August 11, 1938, the third of four children born to James Brenton Pressley, Sr. and Hettie Mae Brown Pressley. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Zion Church Cemetery 2421 Cameron Road Chester, SC 29706 with Rev. Al Ward officiating. Family will receive friends at his home 2692 Lowrys Highway Chester, SC 29706 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25. Mr. Pressley grew up in Zion Presbyterian Church, graduated from Chester High School, served in the South Carolina Army National Guard, and worked on his family’s dairy farm. He later retired from Essex Corporation. He was particularly devoted to the care of his mother and sister during their years of declining health. After retiring, he stayed busy working in his yard, enjoying his dogs, spending time with family and friends, and pulling for his beloved Clemson Tigers. He delighted in traveling to most Clemson home football games and many away games with family and friends for several decades. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pressley was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Pressley McKay; his brother, James Brenton (Jim) Pressley, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Wanda Rowland Pressley. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Brown Pressley, Sr. and Joyce Jones Pressley; his nephew, Thomas Brown Pressley, Jr.; nieces, Marilyn Pressley, Jane Pressley Glenn (Scott), and Wendy Pressley Levister (Wayne) as well many dear cousins, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and kind friends. His family was able to honor his wishes to complete his earthly life in his home with help from many caregivers.
