John Otis McManus Jr., 50, died Friday March 31, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, April 3, 2023 at Woodard Baptist Church of Chester with Reverend Keith Hinson. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Woodward Baptist Church. John was born on August 4, 1972 in Chester, South Carolina and was the son of Helen B. McManus and the late John O. McManus Sr. (Martha). He attended Chester County Schools and loved the game of baseball. “Johnny 5” spent his young adult life playing slow-pitch softball and coaching his own children through the Dixie Youth program in Chester; his love for the game was infinite. In his later years, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was the “know it all, handy man” to call. John and his wife, Barbara, also spent most summer weekends at the lake surrounded by their closest friends. In addition to his father, John O. McManus Sr. , his preceded in death by his grandparents, James W. Banks (Shorty) and Viola Banks. John is survived by his wife Barbara Dickerson McManus, his love of 32 years, their two wonderful children Justin McManus (Kaylin) and Megan McManus Jordan (Ryan), and his granddaughter and “PawPaw’s Angel,” Millie Brooks Jordan, all of Chester. In addition to his immediate family, John is also survived by his loving mother, Helen B. McManus; sisters, Lisa McManus (Ricky), Joni Schardien (David), and Laurie Mitchell (Bobby) and brothers, Chuck Garrett (Kristie) and Josh Garrett (April). The family is receiving friends at the home of John and Barbara McManus at 12173 Old Douglass Rd., Blackstock, SC 29014. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodward Baptist Church located at 1570 Ashford Road, Chester, SC 29706. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.barronfuneralhome.com.
