John William Etters, 83 died Friday, April 5, 2024 at MUSC Chester Nursing Center. A 3:00 PM graveside service will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Evergreen Cemetery with Reverend Don Etters officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service. Born on August 22, 1940 John was the son of the late Charles William and Mary Elizabeth Shuman Etters. John was a self taught mechanic, welder, and machine body man. He worked for Springs Industries Gayle Plant until it closed and also Ray's Automotive and Bell's Body Shop. John loved drag racing and was one of the first in Chester to drag race. He was also an avid reader. Family held a special place in his life and he always said "Blood is thicker than water". John was a veteran of the US Army having served as a Medic. He lived his entire life in the home he was born in at Robbins Circle. John is survived by his brother, Don Etters (Sandra);three nephews, Ricky Etters, Dean Etters (Angie) and Robbie Darby (Debbie); Danny Sinclair whom he loved as his son and Peyton Sinclair whom he loved as his granddaughter; three great-nephews, Jeremy Etters (Ashley), Justin Etters and Hunter Etters; three great nieces, Ricki Lee Etters, Krista Jordan (Tyler) and Kaylee Etters; three great-great nephews and two great-great nieces; his life long friend, Charles Bell and his loyal companion, his cat, Hot-Rod.
