John Cassells "Johnny" Elliott

April 27, 1922 — August 13, 2014

John Cassells (Johnny) Elliott, 92, died peacefully at the Veterans Victory Home in Walterboro, S.C. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.A lifelong resident of Chester, he was born on April 27, 1922. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jerry Weatherford Elliott; his parents John Alexander Elliott and Minnie Cassells Elliott; and siblings Lester Elliott, Louise E. Hermann, and Francis E. Parker. He is survived by his daughter, Lyn Elliott Gaston and son-in-law Neely; son John Russell Elliott; grandchildren John Neely Gaston, Megan M. Gaston, and John Louis Elliott; his brother Floyd Elliott; sister Betty E. Harrison; and many nieces and nephews. He was an U.S. Army veteran of WW II and saw action at D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he attended Clemson College and retired from the S. C. Tax Commission. The loves of his life were his family, friends and raising thoroughbred race horses and beef cattle. Johnny was an active member at First Baptist Church of Chester for 80 years. A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday August 16 at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the church social hall Saturday morning 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m., and at the home of Lyn and Neely Gaston at 107 Hillcrest Drive, Chester, S.C. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church – Music Program (102 Church Street, Chester, S.C. 29706).
