John Newt Campbell, Sr

Chester John Newt Campbell passed away at his home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the age of 94. John Newt lived a fulfilling life as a father, brother, husband and friend. As a pillar of the community, John Newt was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 51 years where he was a past Master and served as Chaplain for 17 years. John Newt was a member of Heath Memorial United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for for 65 years. He lived a life of service and began that service in 1953 in the United States Army where he earned the rank of Sergeant. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha Jane; their three children, David Patterson (Leah), Martha Beth, and John Newt, Jr (Nadine); and his four grandchildren, John Newt, III, Ian James, Mary Elizabeth Patterson and Claire Arden. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Patterson and Margaret Ann Elizabeth Campbell, and ten siblings he dearly loved. Funeral services will be held at Heath Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 18, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Karen Starr and Dr. William Evans officiating.
