John Douglas Clayton, 82, died Saturday, December 6, 2025, at his home. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Armenia Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Brian Meares and Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service and other times at the home.
Born July 31, 1943 in Chester, SC, he was a son of the late John E. Clayton and Annie Pearl Ravan Clayton. Bud was a graduate of the GED program through Chester County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during Vietnam. Bud was a retired truck driver and plumber. He was a member of Armenia Methodist Church. Bud was also a member of the Sandy River Masonic Lodge #207, the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and the Chester Chapter of the American Legion. Bud was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Alison Kimber Clayton; one daughter, Kim Clayton Orr (Russell) of Chester; one son, Kevin Clayton (Karen) of Greenville, SC; five grandchildren, Colt, Paitan, Grayson, Brandon and Lukas; a sister, Carolyn Branham (Tracy) of Blackstock, SC; a brother, Joe Clayton (Charlotte) of Raleigh, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by a daughter, Brandy May Clayton Gardener and a sister, Faye Clayton Holley.
