John Philip Bourne

John Philip Bourne : Grandview, TN Phil Bourne died peacefully on June 12, 2018 in hishome.Born and raised in Charleston West Virginia, he graduated from Duke University and married Duke nursing student Anna Clark "Clarkie" Plyer of Chester SC, daughter of Katharine and Capers Dixon "Big Boy" Plyer (one of the former owners of Plyler's Furniture Company). A veteran of the Korean War, he later had a successful career with IBM for over 25 years.In 1984, he retired and moved with his wife to their Tennessee mountain farm. Up until his final days, he was the chef "Papa Phil" at Grandview Mountain Cottages, a family run business on his TN farm. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Anna Clark Plyer Bourne, his mother Alpha Omega Conley, his father Edgar Carl Bourne, his aunts Ruth Bullock and Hazel Snyder and his uncle Kenneth Bourne. He is survived by daughters Brenda Leah Bourne (CA) and Ilaeka Cheryl Villa (TN), grandsons Dylan Christopher Watts (Italy) and Wesley Graham Watts (OR), sister Carole Woeber (TX), nephews Andy Woeber (FL) & Daniel Woeber (TX), niece Martha Colby (TX), cousins Dan Snyder (FL), George Bullock (PA), Barbara Gallaher (TX),Leisa Atha (VA) and Tyler Bullock (GA). A Celebration of Life will be held at Grandview Mountain Cottages (TN) on June 22nd at 12 Noon. A cremation burial with military honors will be held June 23rd at 4pm at Chester Memorial Gardens in Chester SC beside the grave of his wife.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cumberland Trail Association (Piney Falls Fund), 409 Thurman Ave # 102, Crossville, TN 38555 for safety improvements on his favorite local trail or to the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department, 332 Hemlock Drive, Grandview, TN37337, to assist in the many services they provide to the tiny rural area he so loved.
