Richburg Mr. John Newton Bennett, Jr., 75, passed on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at Springs Memorial Hospital.Funeral services will be held at4:00 PM on Tuesday, January 7, at Union ARP Church with Rev. Neely Gaston and Dr. Huey Mills officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM on Tuesday in the fellowship hall of Union ARP Church. Mr. Bennett was born August 17, 1938 in Spartanburg, SC and was the son of the late John Newton Bennett, Sr. and Mary Melton Bennett.He was a 1956 graduate of Lewisville High School where he was a member of the first football team at the school.He received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Wofford College in 1960.Mr. Bennett retired from Bowater as a purchasing manager after 28 years of service.He was a lifelong member of Union ARP Church where he served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Bennett is survived by one daughter Jane Gaston and husband Strait of Lancaster; three sons, Andy Bennett and wife Sandy of Chester, Mark Bennett and wife Debbie of Richburg, and Brad Bennett and his companion Sybil Gregory of Fort Lawn; seven grandchildren, Michelle O’Donnell, Ginny St.Claire, Will Gaston, Elizabeth Gaston, James Newton Bennett, John Mark Bennett, and Delaney Ann Bennett; and three great grandchildren, Kayley O’Donnell, David Freeman, and William O’Donnell.He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gibson Bennett.
