Joann Frazer "Weetsie" Mckeown

Mrs. JoAnn Frazer “Weetsie” McKeown died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Newberry, SC. Born in Chester, SC April 21, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Samuel McCarthy Frazer Sr. and the late Ruth Anderson Frazer, both of Chester. She was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel McCarthy Frazer Jr. Mrs. McKeown was a lifelong horse enthusiast and accomplished horsewoman in her youth. Later she became a popular riding instructor and successful on the horseshow circuit with her daughter Ruthie and youngest son, Joe. She was a member of Cedar Shoals Presbyterian Church in Richburg, SC. She was married to the late James G. McKeown Sr. for 19 years and is survived by two sons, James G. McKeown Jr. of Kershaw, SC and Joseph Frazer McKeown of Rock Hill, SC; a daughter, who cared for her over her last several years, Sara Ruth McKeown White and husband Francis, of Newberry, SC; and two grandchildren, Sara Helen McKeown of Driggs, ID, and Joan Greer McKeown of Chester, SC. There will be no formal funeral services for Mrs. McKeown. Friends and family members may pay their respect at a short memorial service and visitation from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the donations be made to Cedar Shoals Presbyterian Church, 5056 Richburg Road, Richburg, SC 29729.
