Chester Mr. Jesse Clyde Thomas, Jr., 85, died Thursday, September 5, 2019, at his home.A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at First Baptist Church, Lowrys with Rev. Justin Ford and Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating.Interment will be private.The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the sanctuary of the church. Mr. Thomas was born April 20, 1934 in Chester, SC and was a son of the late Jesse Clyde “J.C.” Thomas, Sr. and Christine Davis Thomas.He was a graduate of Chester High School where he was a baseball player and he also played ball in the Cottonbelt League.Mr. Thomas was a member of the SC Army National Guard for over 13 years and was retired from Essex Corporation as maintenance supervisor. Jesse was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors.He had a natural talent with wood and anything involved with home remodeling.Jesse was a perfectionist.He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lowrys. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Jeanette Stephenson Thomas; two children, Jason Thomas (Ginny) and Kim Cooper (John-John) both of Chester; one grandson, Corey Cooper and his fiance, Mary Hannah Howie of Chester; one brother, Ronald H. Thomas (Mary Ellen) of Huntersville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Thomas. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of SC, 110 Dillon Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29307 or First Baptist Church Lowrys, SYAH Team, 3981 Armenia Rd., Chester, SC 29706.
