James Gill Watts, Jr.

Mr. James Gill Watts, Jr. died Monday, October 10, 2022 at Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill, SC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rick Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Barron Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mr. Watts was born August 11, 1951 in Chester, SC and was a son of the late James Gill Watts Sr. and Wilma Wolfe Watts. He was a graduate of Chester High School and York Tech. James was retired from Winthrop University as maintenance supervisor at the coliseum and was employed earlier with Springs Industries at the Katherine Plant in Chester, SC. He was an avid SC Gamecock, Atlanta Braves and Washington Redskins fan. Mr. Watts was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Vanessa Hefner Watts; two children, Julie Hutto (Jeffery) of Chester, SC and James “Jamie” Watts, III (Laura) of Chester, SC; seven grandchildren, Mandy, John, Dylan, Taylor, Avery, Hope and Haley; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Jerry Heatley (Randall) of Elloree, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Watts.
