James Maurice "Reecey" Tant

Chester Mr. James Maurice “Reecey” Tant, 80, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, in Columbia.A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Old Purity Cemetery with Rev. Don Simpson officiating.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, December 7, 2018, at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC. Mr. Tant was born February 13, 1938 in Denmark, SC and was a son of the late Lonnie Tant and Ogreta Mitchell Tant.He was a graduate of Denmark High School and attended Newberry College.Mr. Tant was retired from Fort Jackson Civil Service.He was a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church.Reecey was 1st place winner of the Barbecue Cookout of SC in 1979 and was called the “Pork Cookout King”.He was an avid hunter. He is survived by three sons, James Michael Tant of Orlando, Florida, Paul Edward Tant of Chester and Scott Langford Tant of Winnsboro; one daughter, Catherine Yvonne Phillips of Lexington; two grandchildren, Johnny Reeder of Lexington and Dustin Langford Tant of Chester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
