Richburg Mr. James Walker McWaters, Sr., 85, died Thursday, May 6, 2021.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 10, 2021, at Union A.R.P. Church with Rev. Neely Gaston officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, May 9, in the social hall of Union A.R.P. Church, 3594 Lancaster Hwy., Richburg, SC 29729. Mr. McWaters was born May 11, 1935 in Chester, SC and was a son of the late Fred McWaters and Mary McManus McWaters.He attended the schools of Chester County and graduated with the GED program in the military.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.Mr. McWaters retired from Springs Industries and also Richburg Supply.He was a member of Union A.R.P. Church where he was very active as an Elder and served in many other ministries of the church.Mr. McWaters also served on the Richburg Fire Board and was a member of Richburg Masonic Lodge #89.He was affectionately known as “Paw-Paw”. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Watts McWaters, three children, James W. McWaters, Jr. (wife, Gigi) of Rock Hill, William Franklin “Billy” McWaters (wife, Nikki) of Richburg and Brenda McWaters Taylor of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Mr. McWaters was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carrie Jo McWaters; one brother, Robert McWaters; and a sister, Gertrude McWaters Starnes.
