James Madison "Jimmy" Mccrorey, Sr.

March 29, 1940 — April 5, 2025

Mr. James Madison McCrorey, Sr., (Jimmy), of Chester, SC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at his home. 85 years old, born March 29th, 1940, he was the son of the late Samuel Madison McCrorey and Ruth Atkinson McCrorey. Jimmy was predeceased by his one true love, his wife of 56 years, Patricia Pearson McCrorey. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, April 8 at Wesley United Methodist in Chester, SC with Rev. Dan Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends also Tuesday at the church from 10 AM. until 11 PM. Interment will be held in Union ARP Cemetery, Richburg, South Carolina He is survived by two children, James Madison McCrorey, Jr "Matt", (Ann) of Richburg, SC and Susan McCrorey Lowe (Brantley) of Richburg, SC. Also, surviving are three grandchildren, Garrison and Madison McCrorey and Josie Lancaster, and one great grandchild Gemma McCrorey. He is also survived by two sisters, Ann McCrorey Bargamin, Mary McCrorey Westmoreland, (Andy). He also had one sister- in-law Joyce Lee Hunter and many nieces and nephews. He was a 1957 graduate of Lewisville High School and remained a Lions fan throughout his entire life. He and Patsy loved to attend any Lion's sporting event, and especially when they had a grandchild to watch playing. Jimmy was always on the sidelines to watch his three grandchildren play. He was also a devoted Clemson Tiger Fan and loved watching every one of their athletic events that played on TV. Jimmy was a lifelong Methodist, growing up in Richburg United Methodist Church, and now a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was employed with Springs Industries for 44 years at the Grace Bleachery Plant in Lancaster, SC. After retirement, he enjoyed working for many years at Hunters Florist delivering flowers. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. His garden was known for its delicious tomatoes, cucumbers, and greens that he and Patsy loved to share with friends and family throughout the county. His generosity knew no limits. There was no better tomato sandwich than a Jimmy tomato sandwich. The family would like to thank his special care givers Ms. Beth Campbell, Ms. Cheryl McCrorey, Mrs. Teah Wade, Agape Hospice, and Dr Sam Stone.
