Mr. James Gordon Lutz, 98, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his residence.The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Bishop officiating.The interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 6:00 ? 7:30 PM Friday at Barron Funeral Home. Born July 20, 1912 in Lenoir, NC, Mr. Lutz was the youngest of the late Otis P. Lutz, Sr; and Ida Hickman Lutz.He was a graduate of the schools of Lenoir, NC and a US Navy WWII veteran.He came to Chester to open and operate Chester Frozen Foods and Freezer Locker with his brother O.P. Lutz.Later he and his wife owned and operated the Old Station Restaurant for twenty years.They built homes together in Tennessee and Myrtle Beach which they enjoyed along with their family.He loved tennis and played into his 80?s.He also enjoyed being outside, working in the woods, clearing land and gardening. He was a member of Chester Second Baptist Church and a former member of Woodward Baptist Church.He longed to be reunited in glory with his wife, Dorothy Pearson Lutz, of over seventy-one years. He is survived by two daughters, Joan L. Guyton and her husband Dewey of Chester and Susan L. Stephenson and her husband Ronald of Lowrys; five grandchildren, Ron H. Stephenson, Jr. and Mary Jo Jolley of Lowrys, Eddie Hargett, Jr of Blythwood, Dee McElderry of Columbia, SC and Scott G. Lutz of San Diego, CA; six great grandchildren; and his caregiver Dorothy Worthy.He was preceded in death by a son, James G. Lutz, Jr, a daughter, Mary Alice Hargett, three brothers, C. Herbert Lutz, Otis Peeler Lutz and Ernest Lutz.
