Mr. James Simpson Darby, Jr., (Jimmy) also known to many as “Duck Duck”, 77, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at his home which he always claimed was “God’s Country”. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 27, 2018 at First Baptist Church Chester with burial to follow at Zion Cemetery, Lowrys, South Carolina.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Barron Funeral Home. Born in Chester, SC, Jimmy was the son of the late James Simpson Darby, Sr. and Louise Guy Darby and was preceded in death by his sister, DuPre Love McDonald.He attended the schools of Chester County and Spartanburg Methodist College.He was retired owner and operator of his family business Darby’s Store in Lowrys.Jimmy was currently employed at Barron Funeral Home where he has worked for over fifty years.He served his country in the South Carolina Army National Guard and was very active on several civic organizations including the Lowrys Town Council for forty years and was a Director for Farmers Mutual of Chester County. Jimmy was a dedicated farmer.He enjoyed tending his cows, fellowshipping at the sale barn and reaping the rewards. Surviving are his wife of over fifty-four years, Jewell Elaine Boyd Darby, his son James Simpson Darby, III; his daughter DuPre Darby Clack; six grandchildren, Sallie Elizabeth Darby, Emma Louise Darby, James Simpson Darby, IV, William Whugray Clack, Darby Lee Clack and Jewell DuPre Clack and his faithful cat, Patches all of which he loved unconditionally. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a devoted husband, a magnificent father, a doting grandfather and a true friend to all who knew him.
