Chester, SC: Horace Dean Ivie, 78, died Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, SC. A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at First Church of the Nazarene with Reverend John Porter and Reverend Tim Haynes officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the sanctuary of the church. Interment will be held in Chester Memorial Gardens.Mr. Ivie was born in Shelby, NC on April 3, 1933, a son of the late W.R. Ivie, Sr. and Mattie Lee Wright Ivie. He was a veteran of the United States Marines having served during the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and numerous medals and a life-time member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Ivie was retired from Springs Industries as a trouble shooter for technical services after over forty years of service and a member of their forty year club. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Ivie is survived by his wife, Carol R. Ivie; three daughters, Patricia I. James(Kenneth) of Spartanburg, SC, Kay I. Simpson(Jack) of Rock Hill, SC and Deana I. Varnadore(Mitchell) of Gaffney, SC; five grandchildren, Kristi Madala(Dustin) of Campobello, SC, Jason James(Brooks) and Ashley Wingo(Josh) all of Spartanburg, SC, Jay Simpson of Rock Hill, SC and Quint Varnadore of Gaffney, SC and his friend Whitney Baumgarner of Blacksburg, SC; four great-grandchildren, Davis Madala and Kennedy Madala of Campobello, SC and Hannah Grace James and Katelyn Lee Wingo of Spartanburg, SC; one sister, Hazel I. McWatters(Clarence) of Chester, SC and one sister-in-law Rebecca Ivie of Chester, SC. He is preceded in death by two brothers, W.R.
