CHESTER: Henry William Denruyter was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Mary (Bartholomew) and Frank Denruiter on February 15, 1922, and was the last surviving member of his family. Henry died on February 2, 2014 at the Chester Regional Nursing Center. Henry was a World War II Veteran having served in the US Army Medical Corps in Aruba and France. Following his discharge from the military, he and his beloved wife Virginia settled in Chester County, South Carolina. For many years he was employed by Chester County Hospital in the Maintenance Department and was both a loyal and trusted employee. Henry was a member of the Chester Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he served as both a Deacon and a Ruling Elder. Because of his love for youth, he committed over 20 years of his time as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 61. During his scouting career he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, the Palmetto award, and earned the Wood Badge. After his retirement, he enjoyed a small herd of cattle while living on the farm he and Virginia shared. His parents, his 11 siblings and Virginia Spence Denruyter, his wife of 67 years, preceded Henry in death. A funeral service, conducted by Reverend Clint Davis and Dr. Dwight Pearson, will be held at the home, 871 Saluda Road, on Tuesday February 4, 2014 at 2:00PM. Burial will be in the Spence Cemetery.
