Harvey Cecil Mayhill, 81, passed away on December 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rock Hill, SC.
Born on January 12, 1943, in Davenport, Iowa, Harvey moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina, where he lived the remainder of his life. Harvey grew up in challenging circumstances, with his family facing economic hardship, but it was during this time that he learned the value of hard work, resilience, and the importance of community. He often said that he grew up quickly due to his very impoverished background, but this only strengthened his resolve to help others and make a positive impact on the world.
Harvey proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965, where he met his future wife, Linda Mayhill. Their love story began during his service, and they shared a lifelong partnership built on love, mutual respect, and shared values. After his military service, Harvey worked as a Manufacturing Engineer, where he was known for his professionalism and strong work ethic.
A devoted member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Harvey was deeply committed to serving his community. He was also a proud Freemason, having served as Past Master of the Lodge, where he had a lasting impact on his fellow members and the organization as a whole. Harvey’s greatest joy was serving others. He was deeply committed to mentoring youth, supporting veterans, and being a positive influence in his community. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Harvey was a people connector—he never met a stranger and always found common ground with everyone he encountered. His genuine kindness, generosity, and sense of humor made him a beloved figure to all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Mayhill; his daughter, Kristine Puterbaugh (Jordan); his son Bruce Mayhill (Mayuko); and his cherished grandchildren Daniel Kalshoven (Katie), Jonathon Kalshoven (Ashley), Emily Kalshoven (David), Stefanie Parish, Sachi Parish, and Angelina Parish as well as his “little sister” Debra Sheets (Lawrence). Harvey was also the proud great-grandfather of three great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
