Harold Ronald “Ron” Wyatt, 82, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 19, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 27, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Chester, SC with Mark Wyatt and Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation for family and friends will be in the vestibule of the church immediately following the service.
Mr. Wyatt was born on July 27, 1942, in Spartanburg, SC and was the son of the late Arthur G. Wyatt and Annie “Marie” Wyatt. He was a graduate of Chester High School, attended the Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee, and served in the US Army from 1965 to 1972. At the ripe age of 73 years old, he decided to complete his college education and not only earned his bachelor's and master's degrees, but he also completed his Doctor of Ministry degree from Andersonville Theological Seminary at 79 years old. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Chester, SC where he enjoyed singing in the choir, working in the kitchen, teaching Sunday School, and serving as a Deacon. Since 1968, He served as a Mason, Knight Templar, and a Shriner. Ron also loved the Chester County Hospital where his wife, Mary, enjoyed serving through her nursing career. Ron served on the Hospital Board for 18 years and was chairman of the board for many of those years. Ron moved to Chester when he was 8 years old with his parents for his dad to work with Springs Mills. Ron came from humble beginnings and was always proud to say that he was from the Gayle Mill Village where he made lifelong friends. He also worked for the mill and never forgot his roots. In 1966 he began selling insurance and in 1974 Ron began his career with Nationwide Insurance Company. Ron was the oldest active Nationwide Insurance agent in the country still working at 82 years of age. Having four locations and a 50 + year career with Nationwide Insurance, Ron consistently qualified for Nationwide’s top Champion’s Conference and President’s Conference many years. Nothing made him prouder than having all three of his children and his son in law work in his business alongside of him. Recently three of his six grandchildren joined the agency and have had the experience of learning from the best. Ron’s motto was to love his customers, which he did well. He knew if he served his customers and treated them how he wanted to be treated, that success would come. He leaves a huge legacy to follow.
Ron was also known for spreading God’s love with people and his love of southern gospel music. Ron loved singing the good news and with his brother, David, founded the Apostles Quartet. In the 1970’s, they traveled many states sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others through music and their testimonies. Ron knew that if the Lord could use him to win just one soul for Christ, that he was doing what God put him here to do. Ron was known for sharing God with others through his actions, kind words, and just loving on people. He supported over 20 ministries and organizations including building a pastor’s home, orphanage housing, and a church for his missionary friend, Sparjan Geddada in India. We are so thankful and proud of how he allowed God to use him. We know many people whose lives he changed and who came to know the love of God through him.
In 1966, Ron married Mary Caldwell, the absolute love of his life. They were married for 38 years and loved traveling, especially taking family cruises. Disney World was also one of his favorite places on Earth. They shared three children and six grandchildren.
Ron also loved meeting for coffee at Gene’s every morning, where the legends of Chester come together to solve all the world’s problems, if only others would listen to them. They talk religion, politics, family, and football. He was also a Carolina Gamecock fan and in his younger years an avid golfer. If you asked Ron what his hobby was though, he would say loving Mary, his children, and his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his three children, Beth Wyatt Guy (Brian), Susan Wyatt Thomas (Scott), and Ronald Mark Wyatt (Becky). He also had six grandchildren whom he loved more than anything in this world, Wyatt Grant Thomas, Gus Jennings Thomas, Julia Marie Wyatt, Nolan Graham Guy, Peyton Crowder Wyatt, and Mary Cathryn Wyatt. He is also survived by a brother, Randy “Joe” Wyatt (Kathy). He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, two brothers, Jack and David, and one sister, Helen.
Memorials may be sent to Chester First Baptist Church Lottie Moon and Chester Freedom Ministries for Sparjan Geddada with Ebenezer Ministries.
