CLEMSON, SC Mr. Harold Alexander ?Mac? McKeown, 81, of 336 Pendleton Road, Clemson, SCdied Wednesday, December 30, 2009. The funeral will be 3:00 PM Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 3:00 PM Chester First Baptist Church, in Chester, SC with Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating.Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A memorial service will held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 9, 2010 in Jervey Gymnasium on the Clemson Campus. Born in Chester, SC on January 10, 1928, he was the son of the late Col. Dewey Miller McKewon and Sarah Fleming McKeown.He was a graduate of Chester High School and attended Clemson Universityin Clemson, SC.Mr. McKeown served in the U.S. Army and was widely known as the owner of ?Mac?s Drive-In? in Clemson, SC.He was awarded The Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina?s highest civilian award, in 1997. Surrounded by about 100 people in his intensive care hopsital room on December 30, 2009 ?Mac? was honored with a proclamation designating December 30 as Harold Alexander ?Mac? McKeown Day proclaimed by James F. Barker, President of Clemson University, and Larry W. Abernathy, Mayor of Clemson.The proclamation acknowledged his love for Clemson University, it?s surrounding community, and it?s athletics that extend well beyond the boundaries of the University and City of Clemson. The mayor of Clemson presented a medallion and Clemson University President Jim Barker presented a plaque representing the Clemson ring in naming McKeown an honorary alumnus of the university. Surviving are one sister, Betty Jean McKeown of Chester, SC; one brother, William Ross ?Bill? McKeown and his wife Peggy of Charlotte, NC; two sisters-in-law, Dohnove M. McKeown of Charlotte, NC and Irene J. McKeown of Chester, SC and a number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Ann McKeown and four brothers, Dewey, Jr, Charles, James ?Jim?, and Don McKeown. The family will receive friends from 1:00 ? 2:45 P.M. on Saturday at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester.
