Harold Dean Gaddy

March 16, 1938 — January 23, 2022

Chester Mr. Harold Dean Gaddy, 83, died Sunday, January 23, 2022, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 26, at Lowry’s Baptist Church with Chris Gaddy and Mack Stewart officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary of the church. Dean was born March 16, 1938 in Chester, SC. He was a 1956 graduate of Chester High School and received his Business Administration degree from the University of South Carolina in 1961.He was a US Army Veteran and a member of Lowry’s Baptist Church. Throughout his 83 years, Dean developed many hobbies that included raising and training field champion bird dogs, hunting quail from South Carolina to West Texas, catching as many stripers as he could on the Congaree and Saluda Rivers and cheering on his Gamecocks.Just like his father, Fred, storytelling came naturally to him and he loved sharing (sometimes embellished) stories about his childhood in Lowrys, his baseball days at Clemson, his time coaching American Legion and Dixie Youth Baseball in Chester and his many adventures all over the world. Whether he was golfing with buddies or traveling with work, you could be guaranteed that he would have some funny or sometimes dangerous stories to tell about what he had gotten himself into (and out of). Dean was a 30+ year State Farm Agent in Chester and Great Falls and he made sure his employees, their families and his policyholders were taken care of.He received many professional accolades from the company during his tenure with State Farm, but some of the most rewarding were from the people he worked with throughout the years.Dean’s sense of humor and genuine love and generosity for his family, friends, animals and community will be missed tremendously. He is survived by his wife, Beth Gaddy; son Chris Gaddy (Kathi); daughter Kathryn Gaddy all of Chester, SC; stepsons Steve Holcombe (Traci) of Murrells Inlet, Kevin Holcombe (Annette) of Florence and Mike Holcombe (Anita) of Murrells Inlet; grandchildren, Katie, Noah and Colby Gaddy and Jake and Max Holcombe; special niece, Jeanaryl Likens (Shawn) of Blossburg, Pennsylvania and their daughters, Lysabeth and Olivia; sister, Martha Gaddy Wilkes (Jackie) and many precious nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elizabeth Gaddy; his son, Brad Gaddy; sister, Joyce Gaddy Nelson; and his brother, Curtis Gaddy. The family wishes to extend their love and appreciation to his caregivers, Allison Barr, Leslie Brakefield, Leslie Ford, Tiffany Goetz and Kate O’Neil.
