CHESTER Mr. Habern Garland, 85, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the First Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. James Sanders and Rev. Melvin Pressley officiating.The interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm Saturday at the First Freewill Baptist Church. Born March 31, 1927 in Converse, SC, Mr. Garland was a son of the late George and Willie Morrow Garland.He attended the schools of Union and Chester Counties and was retired from Zenith Engraving.As a man of great faith, he was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church since 1953 where he served as a trustee, deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent.Mr. Garland’s passions were gardening, writing poetry and his grandchildren. He was the widower of Juanita Cooper Garland. He is survived by two daughters, Judy Cleveland and her husband Jimmy and Beth Garland all of Chester; one brother, Edward Garland of Chester; four grandchildren, Tim Cleveland and his wife Tina and Amy Counterman all of Chester,Andrew Cleveland and his wife Allison of Rock Hill, SC and Kelly Stechmesser and her husband Karl of Manchester, England; five great grandchildren, Cooper Cleveland, Ethan Cleveland, Schoene Stechmesser, Sloan Stechmesser and Jacob Stechmesser.
