Chester Dr. Grover Cleveland Tuggle, Sr., 96, died Sunday, December 18, 2016, at his home.The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Neely Gaston officiating.Interment will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, in the vestibule of First Baptist Church. Born January 21, 1920 in Senoia, Georgia, Dr. Tuggle was the son of the late Dr. Grover Cleveland Tuggle and Alberta Pollard Hartzog.He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, Wofford College and Southern College of Optometry.Dr. Tuggle was a B29 flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, a retired optometrist and a member of the Lion’s Club for 62 years. Survivors include his wife, Nannie Darby Tuggle; two sons, Grover C. Tuggle, Jr. and wife Kathleen of Sherman, Tx. and Robert B. Tuggle and wife Jenny of Goose Creek, SC; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three step children, Karen Darby Lyles and husband Wayne of Spartanburg, SC, Harold L. Goodman and wife On and Terry W. Darby and wife Susan both of Colorado Springs, Co.; six step grandchildren; and eleven great step grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret B. Tuggle and a sister, Mary Gibson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 518, Chester, SC 29706.
