Harleyville, SC Mrs. Gloria Jean Rainey Sylvester, 69, died Sunday, May 23, 2021 at MUSC Charleston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 28, 2021 at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Cotner officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday, May 28, 2021 at Barron Funeral Home. Mrs. Sylvester was born December 24, 1951 in York, SC and was a daughter of the late Jack Rainey and Mickey Henderson Rainey. She was a graduate of York High School and York Tech. Mrs. Sylvester was a long haul truck driver and also a private investigator. Gloria was a huge Clemson fan and also loved hunting and fishing. She is survived by two children, R.L.“Thomas” Childers (Emma) of Gaffney, SC and Laura Childers Pyse (David) of Kings Mountain, NC; five grandchildren, Michael Hawkins (Victoria) of Catawba, NC, Dezeray Hawkins of Blackstock, SC, Kristian Stroupe of Gaffney, SC, Sheila Childers (Donnie) of Cowpens, SC and Saira Stroupe of Gaffney, SC; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Yvonne Ray (Mike) of York, SC and Karen Ray (Charlie) of Chester, SC; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sylvester was preceded in death both of her husbands, Bobby Burns and Steve Sylvester. Memorial flower gifts are encouraged because Gloria loved flowers.
