Chester Mrs. Glenda Anne Hawkins Reeves, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, October 19, 2021. All are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life service at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 24, 2021, at First Baptist Church Chester with Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating.The family request that everyone follow CDC guidelines for wearing masks and social distancing. She was born September 15, 1938 in Lancaster, SC and was the daughter of the late Glenn Madison Hawkins and Mary Sue Robbins Hawkins.Glenda graduated Magna Cum Laude from Newberry College with a degree in Education and a major in English.Glenda retired from the SC Department of Social Services.She had a servant’s heart and worked tirelessly to serve and protect the children and families that she served.She was passionate about serving others and putting the needs of others before her own.Glenda was a devoted wife, mother and Nana.There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her children and grandchildren.She enjoyed gathering with family during the holidays, summer beach trips, traveling with her friends, shopping and Gamecock football.Glenda was a member of First Baptist Church Chester for 60 years where she served in the church nursery for 15 years, was a leader with Vacation Bible School, active in Operation Christmas Child and the church flower committee.She was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class where she served on the visitation program. Glenda is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Deanie Reeves who cared for her with love and compassion during her illness; one daughter, Dena Reeves Green (Matt) of Easley, SC; one son, Hal Reeves of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Collin Green (Taylor) of Charleston, SC, Madison Green of Easley, SC, Avery Reeves, Lawson Reeves and Caroline Reeves all of Marietta, GA; one sister, Libby Hawkins Best of Florence, SC; and many nieces and nephews.Glenda was preceded in death by one sister, Harriett Hawkins Neal. Memorials may be made in honor of Glenda Reeves to Chester First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 518, Chester, SC 29706 or Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648.
