Gertrude Collins Scates

Chester Mrs. Gertrude Collins Scates, 90, died Sunday, July 22, 2018, at her home. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 25, at Barron Funeral Home. Mrs. Scates was born December 23, 1927 in Cummings, Georgia and was a daughter of the late Tan and Ellen Collins. She attended the schools of Cummings, GA. and was retired from Springs Industries. The family wishes to say a special heartfelt thank you to her son Doug for being Mrs. Scates caretaker for so many years. She is survived by six children, Eddie Scates, Bobby Scates, Tim Scates, Doug Scates, Shelia Aiken (Lester) all of Chester and Tammy Hudson of Forest City, NC; special niece Carol Catoe of ForestCity, NC; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Scates was preceded in death by one son, David Scates; one daughter, Vickie Flynn; and her husband of over 72 years Jack Scates.
