Geraldine Moon Waters, better known as “Mama Dean”, 90, died Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at her home. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Word and Spirit Ministries. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday at Word and Spirit Ministries with Pastor David Levister officiating. Interment will follow in the Winchester Farms Family Cemetery, 2071 West End Rd., Chester, SC. Mrs. Waters was born November 5, 1933 in Rock Hill, SC and was a daughter of the late Elzie Beverly Moon and Lennie Mae Gibson Moon. She was a graduate of the schools of Chester County, SC and attended a College of Commerce for bookkeeping and secretarial courses. She retired from the State of SC as a Highway Patrol dispatcher and also worked at the SC Welcome Center. Dean had a passion for working with people. She was interested in their life and what they enjoyed. Dean was also an extremely giving person. She would go the “extra mile” to accommodate others. She loved flowers and working with them and also loved watching the hummingbirds. Christmas was special for her. It was either Go Big or Go Home. Dean was a “fashion queen” who loved dressing nice. She was very crafty and loved decorating. Her home church was Parkway Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Vess Winchester of Chester and Suzanne Vess Roderick of Rock Hill; five grandchildren, Melissa Anne Winchester Farrand (DJ), Kristen Winchester Commander (Jason), Megan Cook Culp (Mark), Alyssa Cook Welch (Henry), Trevor Lee Roderick and Andrew Roderick; 14 great grandchildren, Dillyah, Irie, Zane, Khloe, August, Ezzie, Emma, Obi, Baylee, Mason, Noah, Annemarie, Charlotte and Kenzie; and several nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by her husband, B.C. Waters; a son, Buddy Dewayne Vess; a brother, Elzie Michael “Mickey” Moon; a sister, Ollie Trudell Moon Grant; and a son-in-law, Joel Stanley Winchester.
