George Patrick Whitesides Jr., 95, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 1, 2018 at Westminster Health & Rehab in Rock Hill S.C.The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Chester First Baptist Church with Reverend Clay Waldrip officiating.The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.The interment will be private. Born February 16, 1923 in Clover, SC,Mr. Whitesides was the son of the late George Patrick Whitesides, Sr. and Grace Dickson Whitesides.He was a graduate of Bethany High School in Clover and a veteran of the United States Armywhere he served as 2nd Lieutenant.During WWII he worked at the Naval shipyard in Charleston, SC.He was owner and operator of Chester Laundry and Cleaners in Chester, SC since 1948. .He was member of Chester First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a devoted member of the Monroe Crain Sunday School Class.Mr. Whitesides was a member of the Lion’s Club and also a Mason and a Shriner.In years past, George enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music, playing golf, attending Clemson football games, beach time with his family, and hanging out with friends at Gene’s Restaurant.More recently, George loved a cup of coffee from Fast Phil’s and riding around the towns of Chester and Rock Hill. George had a great love for the town of Chester and its people.He was a member of many committees and clubs.He is remembered as a man who loved life and lived it to its fullest.His outlook on life was an exciting adventure with many possibilities. George was fun to be around and made you feel very special when in his presence. He believed in hard work and required that of all his children.Two of his many sayings were, “The Good Lord made us all different” and “All and all, everything is fine”. He is survived by his wife of over sixty-seven years, Doris Hare Whitesides; children, George Patrick Whitesides III (Trina) of Chester,Royce NewtonWhitesides (Karen) of Chester, Karen Whitesides Wright (Todd) Fort Mill,Sandra Whitesides Caldwell (Ken) of Chester andRobert Dickson Whitesides (Anne) of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren, George Patrick Whitesides IV (Bailey), Quay Elliott Whitesides (Whitney), Elizabeth Grace Whitesides, Marshall Grant Whitesides (Brittany), Bonnie Marie Whitesides, Robert Dickson Whitesides Jr., Margie Sloan Caldwell, Frances Mood Whitesides, Royce Newton Whitesides II (Josie), Maggie Grace Wright, and Kenneth Eames Caldwell IV; 7 great grandchildren;one brother, Marshall Dickson Whitesides (Sadelle) of York, SC.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Whitesides Taylor and Frances Whitesides Williamson.
