Chester Mr. Morris Eugene “Gene” Underwood, 70, has gone to be healed in the arms of Jesus.He passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.There will be a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Chester Freedom Ministries with Rev. Steve Bishop and Rev. Kevin Taylor officiating.Interment will be private. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Chester Freedom Ministries, 729 Village Dr., Chester, SC. Gene was born in Galveston, Texas on October 12, 1944 and was a son of the late Morris Dwight and Sadie Mae Howard Underwood.He was educated in telecommunications while serving in the United States Army, starting at the age of 19.He served in the Vietnam War and continued his passion for telecommunications when he returned home.He retired from TruVista Communications as IT Manager after 14 years.Gene attended Chester Freedom Ministries where he volunteered his time and knowledge to maintain computers and video services for the church and numerous church members.He was active in missionary work sharing his teachings and his discipleship.He was example of unmeasurable faith, compassion, cheer, and unconditional love and was a man who many could depend on regardless of what was going on in his life at any time.He has touched numerous people and will never be forgotten whether it is for a smile, a hug, a kind word or help with something no matter the size of the task at hand. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Joseph Alan Underwood.He is survived by his wife Margaret Ann Bachman Underwood of Chester, SC, his son James Dwight Underwood of El Reno, Oklahoma and daughter Yolanda and husband Steve Schroeter of Sweeny, Texas.Grandchildren include Steven and Rachele Schroeter, Justin and Kari Schroeter, Ryan Nallie, Joseph and Jennifer Nallie, and Haleigh Underwood.Great-Grandchildren include Steven Schroeter III, Isabella Schroeter, Jason Schroeter, and Isabel Nallie.He is also survived by his brother Robert (Bob) Dwight Underwood, of Katy, Texas and his father-in-law, Earl Bachman of Chester, SC.
