Chester, SC---Gene Rachels, 77, died Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, Rock Hill, SC. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Reverend Judson King and Reverend Harry Gindhart officiating. Interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, June 14, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00PM at Barron Funeral Home. Born March 28, 1933 in Worthington, GA, Mr. Rachels was a son of the late John Milton Rachels and Vivian Brown Rachels and the widower of Patricia Underwood Rachels. He graduated from Camak High School in Warrenton County, GA and Georgia Teachers College. Mr. Rachels was a veteran of the US Army and the owner and operator of Gene Rachels Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Buick in Chester and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Mr. Rachels served as an Aeronautics Commissioner from 1984-1988 and was a former member of Rotary. He was an avid Gamecock fan having been a member and full scholarship donor for the Gamecock Club for over thirty-six years. He is survived by two sons; Patrick E. ?Pat? Rachels of Winnsboro, SC and William M. Rachels and his wife Carol of Chester, SC; three grandchildren; William Norris Rachels of Fort Mill, SC and Nicholas Riley Rachels and Nolan Lloyd Rachels both of Chester, SC and one brother, Larry Rachels of Warrenton, GA.In addition to his wife,Mr. Rachels was preceded in death by a brother Cecil Rachels.
