Gene Scott Palmer

Chester Mr. Gene Scott Palmer, 74, died Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Hospice of Laurens County. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 24, 2023, at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC. Mr. Palmer was born November 10, 1948 in Shelby, NC and was a son of the late Jesse Walter Palmer and Willie Sue Stewart Palmer. He was a graduate of York High School and attended Diesel Training in Nashville, TN. Mr. Palmer was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam war. He was a self employed truck driver in the logging industry. Mr. Palmer was a member of Capers Chapel United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Shirley Grant Palmer; one son, Tommy Palmer (Shelly) of Rock Hill, SC; two daughters, Wendy Caughey (Jeff) of Cedar Mountain, NC and Amber Thompson (Jason) of Laurens, SC; eight grandchildren, Michael, Scott, Amber, Brett and Bryson and Meredith; Logan and Jonathan; four great grandchildren; one brother, Briggs Palmer (Brenda) of Rock Hill, SC; two sisters, Judy Crawford of Kings Mtn., NC and Linda Patterson of Rock Hill, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by a son, Jason Scott Palmer.
