RICHBURG, SC Mr. Gene A. Bennett, 62, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Chester Regional Medical Center.A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Lando Church of God with Rev. Edward Harris and Rev. Jerry Barrineau officiating.The interment will be in the Lando Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Home in Chester, SC. Born August 16, 1949 in Chester, SC, Mr. Bennett was a son of the late Archie Bennett and Ophelia Gladden Bennett.He was a graduate of Chester County Schools and York Technical College.He was a U.S. Army veteran and served overseas during Vietnam.He was retired from Superior Essex as maintenance supervisor.He attended the Lando Church of God and was an avid outdoorsman, great husband and father.He also had a passion for dirt track racing. He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Winifred H. Bennett, one daughter, Gina Elizabeth Bennett-Roche and her husband Dennis of Rock Hill; one son, Christopher Issac “Ike” Bennett and his wife Leslie of Lando,; three brothers, Allen Bennett of Richburg, Stan Bennett of Chester and Bruce Bennett of Rock Hill; four sisters, Connie Brownand Nancy Bennett both of Rock Hill, Susan Elkins of Chester, Brenda Gayle Hovis of Waxhaw, NC; numerous nieces, nephews and friends and a cat named “Chubbs”.
