CHESTER ? Mr. R. Frank Hayes, 85, of Chester died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry Gindhart officiating.Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery with SC Highway Patrol Honors. Born May 14, 1924 in Rock Hill, SC, Mr. Hayes was a son of the late Robert Frank and Anne Pressley Hayes.He was a graduate of Chester High School and a 1948 Clemson College graduate and also a graduate of the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy. Mr. Hayes was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during WWII and was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a retired Lieutenant with the S.C. Highway Patrol having served over thirty-four years.In 1969 he was recognized as District 4 South Carolina Highway Patrolman of the Year.He was a lifetime member of the South Carolina Troopers Association and an avid Clemson Fan. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Pauline S. ?Polly? Hayes; two daughters, Frances Elaine Tavelle Allison and her husband Bryan of Aiken, SC and Carole Tavelle of Lexington, SC; one brother, Fields K. Hayes of Chester, SC and two nieces. The family will receive friends from 6:00 ? 8:00 PM Monday at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester, SC 29706.
