Chester:Mr. F. Guy Darby, Sr., 82,entered our Lord?s presence on August 12,2011.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 15, 2011 at Zion Presbyterian Church in Lowrys with Reverend Al Ward officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the home, 1949 Darby Road. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brian Mitchell, Jackie Craven, Willie Hardin, Neil Alexander, Alan Love and Bynum Poe. Active pallbearers will be Scott Clyburn, Forrest Emerson, Dwight Neese, Bill Cranford, David Benson, Johnny Rogers, Curt Matthews and Jimmy Stegall. Born on July 23, 1929 in Chester, Mr. Darby was the son of the late Theodore Mobley and Jane Hardee Darby. Guy Darby married the love of his life Sara Elizabeth Kelly on January 29, 1950 and togetherthey reared four children. He was the owner of the F. Guy Darby & Son Farm where he raised cotton, cattle, and wheat on the land the family has owned for 125 years. He co-founded Darby Oil, Inc. in 1982. He was instrumental in bringing the movie The Patriot to South Carolina and hosted much of the filming on the farm.Mr. Darby was active in his church and the community. He was a lifelong member of Zion Presbyterian where he served faithfully for many years as an elder and on the cemetery committee.One of his special ministries was to purchase Bibles for churches, ministries, and individuals - especially children.Some of his community service was a Soil Conservation Supervisor, on the ASCS County Committee, past president of the North Chester Fire Protection Association, a member of the Chester County School Board, the Catawba Academy School Board, the Westminster Towers Board, the Chester Jaycees and the Chester Assembly. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Sara; daughter, Sandra Darby Poole (Larry) of Columbia, S.C.; son, F. Guy Darby, Jr. (Cindy) of Chester, S.C.; daughter, Kelly Darby Frazier (Joe) of Raleigh, N.C.; and daughter, Harriet Darby Palecek (Steven) of McConnells, S.C. He is also survived by his sister, Harriet Darby Lewis of Columbia, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore Mobley Darby, Jr. and two sisters, Sarah Darby Hutchins and Isabel Darby Aslund.
