Mrs. Evelyn Clara Wright Gantt, 92, died Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill, SC. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Clay Waldrip, Rev. Jerry Devinney and Rev. Cory Hinton officiating. Interment will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM also at First Baptist Church. Mrs. Gantt was born October 31, 1931 in Shelby, NC and was a daughter of the late Bryant Wright and Mary Louise Elliott Wright. She was a graduate of Shelby High School and was retired form BC Moore after 20 years of service. After her retirement, she enjoyed working at The House of Distinction. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was a member of the Senior Group and The Bereavement Committee. Evelyn loved birds and feeding them and caring for birds was her hobby. She also enjoyed making pancakes for her grandchildren and seeing them line up to receive them. She is survived by her two sons, Bruce Gantt (Leigh) of Catawba, SC and Billy Joe Gantt (Debi) of Beaufort, SC; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Debbie Vandyke (Sandy) of Conover, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Joe A. Gantt; one daughter, Linda Kay Gantt Thomas; brothers, Don and Henry Wright.
