CHESTER, SC: Mrs. Eugenia Dudley Stone, 86, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at her home.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Purity Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jason Myers officiating.Interment will be private.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Thursday, June 22, at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC. Born October 5, 1930 in Florence, SC, she was the only child of the late Eugene Hugh Dudley and Mary Morgan Dudley.At an early age her family moved to Central, SC where she was a graduate of Central High School and the class valedictorian and captain of the basketball team.She was a graduate of Furman University with a Bachelor of Science degree and double minor degree in both Home Economics and Education. After graduation she began her career with the SC Extension Service in Chester, SC and worked there until she was married to William Cornwell Stone on November 8, 1958 in Central, SC.They raised their family and lived for many years in Chester. Eugenia was a devoted wife and enabled her husband in all of his many and varied civic and community activities as well as his successful business.She was mother and homemaker of three children, the late William Cornwell Stone, III, Mary Melissa Stone Lifsey (Michael)and Hugh Dudley Stone (Anne M. Hair) and their children, Mary Elizabeth and Matthew Lifsey and Will and Morgan Stone. Eugenia was a faithful member of Purity Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and Chairman of Circle #2 for over 25 years. She was a vital part ofthe Purity Presbyterian Pantry.She was past president of the Chester Pilot Club, The Cotillion, The Assembly, Up-to-Date Club, Friday Gardeners, a life member of Friends of The Library and a member of the Mary Adair Chapter of Daughters of The American Revolution. For many years she spent a week each summer at North Litchfield Beach with her Furman girls, Florence and Petesy.Then the three of them spent a week each summer with her in Blowing Rock at her mountain home watching the “Braves”.She loved family and instigated a Morgan Family Reunion held every two years on Memorial Day weekend. Her motto was “Ask Mimi when all else fails” and her mantra was “The beat goes on-and-on and on”. Memorialsmay be made to Purity Presbyterian Church, PO Box 278, Chester, SC 29706.
